Dear Friends of Jittery Joe’s

July 18th, 2013 Featured, General

Dear Friends of Jittery Joe’s,

As many of our loyal followers now know, the time to say goodbye to a dear friend is close. We have called 780 E. Broad Street our home for almost 14 years. Iconic, authentic, drafty, friendly, unpretentious, non-commercial, and awesome are just a few of the terms used to describe the Roaster. Charlie and Christian, the true professionals that they are, continue to roast, roast, roast, all the while conversing with friends new and old alike as they stop by for a chat. Beans roasted in this old building are now served all over the country – every bean lovingly crafted in the old tin building on the edge of downtown Athens.

But life moves on, and we have found a new home. At the end of August, we will be moving to 425 Barber Street (site of the Quonset Hut). Like the Broad Street location when we initially moved in, the Barber Street property is unique and needs a little TLC.

The bones of the building are vintage Joe’s. We fully intend to transform our new home into something uniquely Jittery Joe’s – creative artwork and woodwork will appear, bikes may hang in strange places, Beverly Babb will introduce world class ironwork. It will evolve and become something all of Athens will be proud of – and we will continue to produce some of the world’s best coffee. And it will have something new and wonderful to our business…PARKING!

We will have a Tasting Room, patio, room for concerts, and special events. We will also have a great production facility, significant space to expand, and a place for our customers to train and learn about coffee. Our location will change, but our heart, character, and mission to roast great coffee will remain the same. Look for much more news to come on our move, but we wanted to go ahead and get the word out to our friends. We are very excited about this new beginning, as well as for the very bright future of our hometown.

Date & Dessert Night

July 8th, 2013 General

Join us Friday, August 9th, 8pm at the Five Points Jittery Joe’s for the last Date & Dessert Night of the Summer.

Date & Dessert NightIn just a few weeks, family and friends will gather again on the 5 Points patio for live music, delicious treats, and fresh-brewed Joe. We are pleased to say that this will be our third Date & Dessert Night of the summer. Our last date night in mid-July brought the twangy bluegrass feel of Ken Will Morton and his harmonica-infused vocals, as well as Yours Truly.

In addition to featured artists, our Date & Dessert Nights feature an open mic portion of the evening. As you are entertained by local musicians, enjoy a specialty pastry developed by our master baker, Heather Kool. For July, we decided on a festive berry cobbler with homemade whipped cream- of course made fresh the day of. This, with an after-dinner cup of coffee created quite the pair.

As of now, we are getting everything set up for our final Date & Dessert Night of the summer, which is scheduled for August 9th. If everyone seems to enjoy this one as much as the other two, we’ll keep the romance coming past summer as well. We hope you (and the kids, if you please) will enjoy the night out. Have dinner at your favorite local restaurant. Then stop in at 8 pm for desserts, entertainment, and your favorite coffee. We can’t wait to see you!

New Epps Bridge Location

May 2nd, 2013 General

UPDATE: NOW OPEN!

About a month ago, on June 5th, we propped open our doors at the new Epps Bridge location to offer you scrumptious specials on coffee and your favorite pastries. Just like the Jittery Joe’s on Baxter, we’ve got a great drive-thru so you can get your Joe on the go. If you’ve got a little more time, come sip your Espresso (or Turtle Mocha, or Shot In The Dark) inside with us. We think you’ll like the interior. The setup is finished concrete, recycled wood, pressed tin and some leather loungers so you can kick back. The tables might just be our favorite part though. Each one’s got something unique happening on the top surface, like being covered with Terrapin bottle caps. We won’t give away what the rest of them look like though- you’ll have to come see for yourself. Pretty soon, we’ll also be setting up exhibition schedules with local artists to give the walls a splash of color.

If you’ve already stopped in, we are very grateful! It’s your continued support that has allowed us to open new locally owned cafes in the Athens area serving locally roasted coffee. Give yourselves a pat on the back. If you haven’t made it in yet, we’re behind the Chick-Fil-A and right next to our neighbors, Barberitos. Thanks and see y’all soon!

===================

We are preparing to open a new Jittery Joe’s Coffee location on Epps Bridge Parkway right next to Barberitos (behind Bank of America and Chick-fil-A). We are working to get everything ready for a late May 2013 opening and are excited to bring Jittery Joe’s to this convenient location in Oconee County.

This cafe will feature drive-thru service, sandwiches made fresh daily, and of course our locally roasted coffee and handcrafted drinks. We look forward to serving you at this location soon.

Saveur Magazine Cover April 2013Jittery Joe’s Coffee is featured in the latest issue of SAVEUR magazine (April 2013, Issue 155) in the article “Canned Good.” The article rounds up and reviews their favorite canned coffees. SAVEUR selected our Sumatra Wahana Natural Process and said “A single-source coffee from Sumatra, this is one of the most complex canned coffees we’ve tasted–layered berry and tropical fruit flavors give way to a nutty brew.”

UPDATE:
We have now sold out of Sumatra Wahana Natural until new crop beans arrive in early summer. If you would like to stay informed about the return of this unique coffee, please sign up for our mailing list now.

In the meantime, please check out our other available coffees including Burundi Kayanza and Organic Colombia Valle del Cauca. The Burundi Kayanza is another washed African coffee that we have been enjoying the last month. It has aromas of candy sugar with a pleasant sweet tart taste. All of the Colombians that we are getting in at the moment are at the peak of the season, but this Organic Colombia Valle del Cauca is our current favorite. It has rich, dark cherry flavors with a juiciness that keeps us coming back for more.
